Cecilia Ballí

Hello and welcome! I’m a writer, journalist and cultural anthropologist. I’ve written for magazines for twenty-five years and was an anthropology professor at the University of Texas at Austin for six years. I was a writer-at-large at Texas Monthly for two decades, and have also written stories for The New York Times Magazine, The New York Times, Harper’s Magazine, and the Columbia Journalism Review. I’m currently writing a book about high school mariachis on the South Texas border. I’m also a research and storytelling consultant.

I have a passion for writing about history, identity, race/ethnicity, culture, and the U.S.-Mexico border. You can read my latest story here.
